Bus needs some drive

The Strathaven Com­mu­nity Bus is in need of vol­un­teers to se­cure the fu­ture of the life­line ser­vice.

Com­mu­nity trans­port chair Phil Brit­tin is call­ing for lo­cal driv­ers to get in­volved with the team as they look to con­tinue to build the project.

The group serve over 1000 peo­ple and around 20 groups across Avon­dale.

Ac­tiv­i­ties range from sup­port­ing youth groups to help­ing pen­sion­ers get to var­i­ous events.

Phil told the News they were look­ing for “one or two” new driv­ers – but en­cour­aged as many peo­ple as pos­si­ble to come for­ward.

“It’s a re­ally re­ward­ing thing to do,” he said.

“I’d en­cour­age any­one who is con­sid­er­ing do­ing it to get in touch.”

To join the team, you only need to have a cat­e­gory D1 li­cence, be un­der the age of 70 and be avail­able on av­er­age one morn­ing ev­ery two to three weeks.
