East Kilbride-based Motorola was one of only 120 busi­nesses through­out the coun­try who re­ceived the Queen’s Award for Ex­port Achieve­ment. The list of com­pa­nies was an­nounced and the award was for “a sub­stan­tial and sus­tained“in­crease in ex­port earn­ings. The Motorola fac­tory at the Kelvin In­dus­trial Es­tate man­u­fac­tured sil­i­con crys­tal semi-con­duc­tors.

Strathaven was to get a £100,000 Parisian-style restau­rant de­spite strong ob­jec­tions from res­i­dents in the area. The East Kilbride Li­cens­ing Ap­peal Court up­held a de­ci­sion by the Li­cens­ing Court to grant a pub­lic house li­cense to Ersk­ine De­vel­op­ments Ltd for a restau­rant in the town’s Water­side Street.
