Ban the sale of ivory
Dr Lisa Cameron MP has continued her call for increased action against the ivory trade by pledging her support of a UK ban on the sale and distribution of ivory.
The MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow signed an Early Day Motion at parliament which attracted widespread crossparty support.
She called for not only the promised ban on the sale of ivory, but also for the closure of the UK domestic market for all ivory.
“Time and time again I have pressed the UK Government to not only live up to its manifesto promise on this issue,” Dr Cameron said.
“But to act as quickly as possible in order to limit the damage that has already been done to one of this planets most iconic species, especially with the recently announced figures that African elephants are dying at an alarming rate.”
