EK face another cup final

- Paul Thomson

Martin Lauchlan hopes his East Kilbride side can finish their season on a high as they prepare to face Cumbernauld Colts in Sunday’s South Challenge Cup Final.

After the misery of their play-off final defeat to Cowdenbeath, Lauchlan must now lift his players for their last match of the season at the Falkirk Stadium.

Cumbernauld Colts have beaten Kilby already this season, winning 1-0 at K-Park in December, but Kilby are hoping to win the Challenge Cup for the second time in their history after their 2013 triumph against Dalbeattie Star.

Lauchlan said:“Hopefully we can go on and finish the season on a high.

“It’s going to be difficult. Colts are a well-organised side and beat us earlier in the season.

“This is the only trophy I’ve not won with the team at this level and most of the squad haven’t won this trophy before either, so that’s a wee incentive.

“Of course there’s still so much disappointment over Saturday, but the boys have done tremendously well this season.

“When you are in a great team, you want to look back and say you won things together. They’ve already won the league together and now they can end the season with another trophy.

“We are determined to finish the season in style and there’s no better way to do that than winning a trophy.”

Kick-off on Sunday is 3pm.
