Rough weekend as EK pair miss out on The Open

East Kilbride golfers MarcWarren and Scott Jamieson won’t feature in this week’s Open Championsh­ip at Royal Birkdale after they both missed the cut at the Scottish Open.

Warren, who grew up in Stewartfie­ld, and Jamieson, formerly of East Mains, needed a strong finish at Dundonald Links over the weekend to snatch one of the last remaining spots atThe Open, but they came up well short.

In the end, 30-year-old Warren finished 77th on the leaderboar­d.The 36-year-old scored par with two rounds of 72 in the event eventually won by Spaniard Rafa Cabrera Bello.

Meanwhile, Jamieson finished on five over (5+) after scoring 76 and then a 73 in his two rounds.

There were three places atThe Open at Royal Birkdale available for the top three players in the top ten who were not already exempt.

Callum Shinkwin claimed one of them, with the other two going to Matthieu Pavon and Andrew Dodt.
