Probe after worker death

A man has died in hospital after being injured at an East Kilbride factory.

The 52-year-old is understood to have suffered fatal injuries while working at IODS Pipe Clad in Kelvin Industrial Estate on Thursday.

Emergency services were alerted to the scene at around 11.10am and the injured man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he later died.

A source told the News the man fell and hit his head while working at the welding firm.

A joint investigation has now been launched by Police Scotland and the Health and Safety Executive.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “On Thursday, September 7, at around 11.10am, a 52-year-old man was injured during an incident in Kelvin Industrial Estate, East Kilbride.

“He was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and has since died. Enquiries are continuing.”

The News contacted IODS for comment but they did not respond.
