Probe af­ter worker death

A man has died in hos­pi­tal af­ter be­ing in­jured at an East Kil­bride fac­tory.

The 52-year-old is un­der­stood to have suf­fered fa­tal in­juries while work­ing at IODS Pipe Clad in Kelvin In­dus­trial Es­tate on Thurs­day.

Emer­gency ser­vices were alerted to the scene at around 11.10am and the in­jured man was taken to Queen El­iz­a­beth Univer­sity Hos­pi­tal in Glas­gow where he later died.

A source told the News the man fell and hit his head while work­ing at the weld­ing firm.

A joint in­ves­ti­ga­tion has now been launched by Po­lice Scot­land and the Health and Safety Ex­ec­u­tive.

A spokes­woman for Po­lice Scot­land said: “On Thurs­day, Septem­ber 7, at around 11.10am, a 52-year-old man was in­jured dur­ing an in­ci­dent in Kelvin In­dus­trial Es­tate, East Kil­bride.

“He was taken to Queen El­iz­a­beth Univer­sity Hos­pi­tal and has since died. En­quiries are con­tin­u­ing.”

The News con­tacted IODS for com­ment but they did not re­spond.
