Newcomer takes title
Kirsten Mills claimed a trophy in her maiden season at Red Deer Bowling Club after teaming up with Iain Richmond to win their Two Bowl Pairs event recently.
The duo defeated seasoned campaigners Margaret Barlas and Robert Cartledge in the final to claim the trophy, sponsored by Sean Walls at the Optical Factory, on Sunday, August 27.
Red Deer’s final one-day tournament of the 2017 season, this was played over five ends with a total of ten shots available for each end.
The tournament was played in two sections with the winners in section A playing the runners-up in section B and winners of section B playing the section A runners-up.
In the first semi-final Margaret Barlas and Robert Cartledge beat Jean Fergusson and Tam Cartledge, with the contest going down to an extra end to decide the winner.
Kirsten and Ian met them in the final – after beating Debbie Johnson and Ritchie Sheridan in the last four – and prevailed to take the title.
Red Deer president Ken Macaulay presented the prizes and cup to the winning team.
Special mention must be made of Debbie Johnson as well, another member doing well in her first season at the club.
