New­comer takes ti­tle

Kirsten Mills claimed a tro­phy in her maiden sea­son at Red Deer Bowl­ing Club af­ter team­ing up with Iain Rich­mond to win their Two Bowl Pairs event re­cently.

The duo de­feated sea­soned cam­paign­ers Mar­garet Bar­las and Robert Car­tledge in the final to claim the tro­phy, spon­sored by Sean Walls at the Op­ti­cal Fac­tory, on Sun­day, Au­gust 27.

Red Deer’s final one-day tour­na­ment of the 2017 sea­son, this was played over five ends with a to­tal of ten shots avail­able for each end.

The tour­na­ment was played in two sec­tions with the win­ners in sec­tion A play­ing the run­ners-up in sec­tion B and win­ners of sec­tion B play­ing the sec­tion A run­ners-up.

In the first semi-final Mar­garet Bar­las and Robert Car­tledge beat Jean Fer­gus­son and Tam Car­tledge, with the con­test go­ing down to an ex­tra end to de­cide the win­ner.

Kirsten and Ian met them in the final – af­ter beat­ing Deb­bie John­son and Ritchie Sheri­dan in the last four – and pre­vailed to take the ti­tle.

Red Deer pres­i­dent Ken Ma­caulay pre­sented the prizes and cup to the win­ning team.

Spe­cial men­tion must be made of Deb­bie John­son as well, an­other mem­ber do­ing well in her first sea­son at the club.
