Rural Members met up for their monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 4, doing well to turn out on such a wet and windy night. They were rewarded, however, by a most enjoyable return visit from the speaker for the evening, Liz McIntyre. Liz had spoken previously on her book “Love Letters from a Desert Rat” and once again she entertained members with “Nan’s Story – My One Good Eye”. This was a most enjoyable, thought provoking and often very moving presentation, based on her mum’s life from the war years on, which provided those present with frequent opportunities for reminiscing. Competition Winners for the evening were: For a piece of wartime memorabilia –1st, Sandra Gibson; 2nd, Joan Duncan; 3rd, Janice Brown. For three anzac biscuits – 1st, Mary Craig; 2nd, Marion Law; 3rd, Janette Smith. On Wednesday, September 13, a group of 19 members and friends enjoyed a visit to Stirling Castle followed by an enjoyable meal at the Golden Lion Hotel. Those who attended are grateful to South Lanarkshire Council for funding awarded from the community grant towards the cost of this trip. The next meeting of Gilmourton Rural will be on Wednesday, November 1 when Kevin Smith will present his nostalgic slide show. Competitions that evening will be granny’s favourite saying and something new made from something old. Meanwhile, on Wednesday, November 15, there will be a whist drive in the Rural Hall, starting at 7.30pm. Tickets will cost £5.
