All set for Xmas lights switch-on

- Nicola Findlay

Festive frolics will return to East Kilbride Village this month for the annual Christmas lights switch-on.

There will be plenty to keep the whole family entertained and get them in the mood for the big day on Sunday, November 19.

Presenter Gina McKie hosts the event which will be filled with entertainment, games and giveaways in the run up to the arrival of Santa as the Village is turned into a winter wonderland.

A traditional Christmas market will be open from midday until 5pm when East Kilbride Village’s Christmas lights will be officially switched on by depute provost Collette Stevenson.

And the event will also include performances from local dance and theatre groups, a festive sing-a-long with Christmas goes Pop and, of course, an appearance from Santa himself. Snow has been guaranteed. For the switching on of the lights will trigger a fall of flakes from above.

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council said:“Why not come along to the free afternoon of festive entertainment, sip some mulled wine and find the perfect gift at one of the market stalls on offer?”

Christmas lights switch-on events have been scheduled for across the region.

Lanark kicks things off on Saturday, November 18 with East Kilbride followed by Hamilton on Saturday, November 25.

Carluke takes centre stage on Friday, December 1 with Rutherglen and Cambuslang’s big days that weekend.
