The visitors were made to pay for those missed chances when East Dunbartonshire took the lead after 15 minutes. An innocuous ball over the top found winger Penman, who slotted the ball past Fraser Campbell.

Fifteen minutes later YM were level. Patient build up play was rewarded when Mikey Carroll’s shot was blocked but McCulloch pounced to score from 12 yards.

Soon YM were in front as James Cameron played a ball into the path of the onrushing McCulloch, who made no mistake from close range.

Craig Fry had a shot just past the upright in the closing minutes of the half as YM held a half-time lead.

Early in the second half Scott Chaplain put Mikey Carroll in possession. He shrugged off the attentions of the central defender to shoot into the corner of the net giving YM a two goal advantage.

Late in the game YM secured their place in the fourth round when Craig Tocher clipped the ball into the path of leading scorer McCulloch and he rounded the keeper before netting his hat-trick and YM’s fourth goal.
