14 SCHOOL AWARD GOLD STAR
Leading sport accolade for Duncanrig
They just love going for gold at Duncanrig Secondary.
And staff and pupils at the Winnipeg Drive school are bursting with pride after receiving the prestigious sportscotland School Sport Gold Award for the second time.
Only a handful of schools across Scotland have achieved the accolade on two occasions.
But Duncanrig have joined that elite group after being put to the test in nine core areas, including physical education, competitions and performance, celebrating sport and facility access for communities.
The award is an initiative funded by the National Lottery and designed to encourage schools to continuously improve when it comes to PE and sporting opportunities.
Duncanrig clinched the award with backing from South Lanarkshire active schools, South Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture, sportscotland and other local sporting partners.
Delighted head teacher George Wynne said: “The award of gold status for the second time is a huge honour to our school and reflects the positivity towards sport and healthy lifestyles within our school community.
“It also recognises the amount of hard work and determination to engage pupils positively in a huge range of sports.
“I would like to express my gratitude to all the staff involved in our outstanding range of opportunities for our pupils and the sports captains, sports ambassadors and sports leaders at all stages in our school who make sport and healthy living an integral part of our school culture.
“I would also like to thank colleagues from all our external partners who support us so effectively.”
