Rugby kids do club proud
With the autumn international programme dictating a cessation of senior fixtures, it was the juniors who were the focus at East Kilbride Rugby Club over the weekend.
The under-16s hosted Livingston and came out on top, winning 24-10.
The first half was an extremely tight affair, Cameron Rennie’s try the only score in 40 minutes.
EK loosened up as the second period progressed with Euan Stirling, Cameron McMillan and David McGiven all going over, Lucas Aitken adding the extras.
The under-13’s victory over Livingston gave them their seventh win in eight games and kept their noses in front of Dumfries at the top of the league.
A dull first half was dominated by the kickers and enlivened only by a try from Ri Murphy, which the stand-off converted himself.
Livi struggled to penetrate East Kilbride’s suffocating defence all afternoon, but did manage to snatch a try early in the second half before flyer Lewis Brown put the game away for EK, streaking in from half-way.
Highlights amongst the younger of the age-grades were the P6 unit proving too strong for Lenzie, winning eight tries to one.
Pick of the scores was Cameron McDaid, who profited from the strong running of Dylan Hennessey and the hard work off the ball of Daniel McCracken and Adam Blair which kept the move alive.
