The Scottish Budget was presented to our Parliament last week, voted for by the majority of members.
In a time of cuts to Scotland’s funding by the Tory Government in Westminster, it was no mean task for our cabinet secretary for finance, Derek Mackay MSP, to balance the books and still protect our public services.
So important for Scotland, and I am pleased that the Scottish Green Party negotiated constructively with our government rather than carping from the sidelines and offering no viable alternative plans.
Last week I voted for a budget which will increase spending in Scotland’s National Health Service; allocate funding direct to head teachers to raise attainment in schools and a funding increase in the college and higher education sector; protect our frontline police budget and emergency services; increase day-to-day spending on local council services and boost provision of childcare and early years’ education.
