The Scot­tish Bud­get was pre­sented to our Par­lia­ment last week, voted for by the ma­jor­ity of mem­bers.

In a time of cuts to Scot­land’s fund­ing by the Tory Gov­ern­ment in West­min­ster, it was no mean task for our cabi­net sec­re­tary for fi­nance, Derek Mackay MSP, to bal­ance the books and still pro­tect our pub­lic ser­vices.

So im­por­tant for Scot­land, and I am pleased that the Scot­tish Green Party ne­go­ti­ated con­struc­tively with our gov­ern­ment rather than carp­ing from the side­lines and of­fer­ing no vi­able al­ter­na­tive plans.

Last week I voted for a bud­get which will in­crease spend­ing in Scot­land’s Na­tional Health Ser­vice; al­lo­cate fund­ing di­rect to head teach­ers to raise at­tain­ment in schools and a fund­ing in­crease in the col­lege and higher ed­u­ca­tion sec­tor; pro­tect our front­line po­lice bud­get and emer­gency ser­vices; in­crease day-to-day spend­ing on lo­cal coun­cil ser­vices and boost pro­vi­sion of child­care and early years’ ed­u­ca­tion.
