Support for EK talent in Australia
The Commonwealth Games kicked off last week on Australia’s Gold Coast.
Eight athletes from East Kilbride and the surrounding districts have made the trip Down Under – and this has peaked the interest of a number of News readers.
Alan Gordon from the Village said: “I went to the athletics when it was in Glasgow last time so I will be watching.
“Hopefully the Scottish athletes will get the same level of support they did last time. “I’ll be behind the local athletes as well!” Allan Mack from West Mains admitted that he wouldn’t be watching – but hoped to see more locals get involved with locals clubs off the back of the Games.
“I’ve been involved with the East Kilbride Model Ship Club for 30 years and it would be great to see more people get involved with local clubs,” he added.
Calderwood resident Donald Kerr had a keen eye on the Games last time but reckons it will be tough to find the time to watch.
He said: “Last time my sister was helping out with the swimmers as a volunteer so we were looking out for her.
“I’m more into winter sports but I’ll see if I can watch some of the big names.”
Donna Hemmings also wanted to get behind the local athletes.
She said: “I managed to catch bits and pieces when it was in Glasgow so I’ll try and do the same again this time.”
Hopefully the Scottish athletes will get the same level of support... Alan Gordon
