Fresh faces for the town centre beat

East Kilbride News - - COMMUNITY POLICING - Andrea O’Neill

We’ll educate the community when it comes to crime.

That’s the pledge from the town centre’s new community cops – PCs Gemma Farms and Andrew Henry.

They have taken over from PCs Craig Struthers and Ian Peebles as East Kilbride Shopping Centre’s bobbies on the beat – and the duo told the News they can’t wait to engage with shoppers as they patrol the malls keeping the community safe from crime.

PC Farms, who started her career in EK five years ago, said:“If there are any incidents in the town centre, we will be dealing with them.

“We expect to mostly be dealing with shoplifting, disorder – mainly round at the bus station – and missing persons.

“But when we’re out and about speaking to members of the public we will mostly be educating the community about crime.”

She added:“If people are seeing the same officers here day in and day out, they will get used to us and hopefully come and speak to us more.

PC Henry is the former community cop for Strathaven with nine years of policing under his belt. He said:“This is a really good patch as you get to know faces of the locals – it’s good to have that knowledge.

“Craig and Ian have done a great job here already so it’s just about taking over their mantle.

“I think this posting will be more about crime prevention rather than detection.”
