YM win 14-goal thriller
East Kilbride YM manager Graeme Robertson did not have his problems to seek prior to this friendly with five first choice players missing due to holidays.
But his depleted squad did return a victory in a 14-goal thriller with Junior side Arthurlie.
Although happy to record a win, Robertson will no doubt be perturbed at some sloppy defending which saw their opponents scoring five times.
Craig Fry scored an early penalty for YM but Arthurlie equalised a few minutes later with an excellent 18 yard free kick.
Quick-fire goals from Ross McDonagh and Anthony Penman gave YM a two goal cushion but on the stroke of half time Arthurlie pulled a goal back, giving promise of an exciting second half.
Craig Tocher increased YM’s lead soon after the break then Paul McLean extended it further, finishing off a fine move with Fry and Tocher.
Arthurlie responded with another goal to make it 5 -3, but YM soon grabbed a sixth goal when McDonagh finished well from Penman’s through ball.
The topsy-turvy tussle continued as Arthurlie scored their fourth goal from another free kick but Connor McCann responded with YM’s seventh goal after an excellent ball from Penman.
The visitors snatched a fifth nearing the end but just to make sure of victory, McDonagh and Tocher added late goals to bring this contest to a close.
On Saturday YM travel to the Isle of Bute for a tough league fixture against Rothesay Brandane, where defeat for either team would be a big blow to their promotion hopes.
Meanwhile, YM’s GGPL side defeated Colquhoun 2-1 with Kenny Corbett and Murray McClure scoring. They now play Rannoch in the league at Hamilton Palace. Kick-off on Saturday is 1pm.
