Ac­cused­oftry­ing tore­movepa­tient

A man has been ac­cused of pass­ing him­self off as a doc­tor in a bid to re­move a pa­tient from Univer­sity Hos­pi­tal Hairmyres.

Stephen Bax­ter, 56, of Glen Mal­lie, St Leonards, ap­peared at Hamil­ton Sher­iff Court where he de­nied at­tempted fraud and an al­ter­na­tive charge of threat­en­ing or abu­sive be­hav­iour.

It’s al­leged he pre­tended to ward 20 staff“on more than one oc­ca­sion” be­tween March 7 and March 9 that he was a doc­tor and that he re­quired ac­cess in or­der to re­move a woman from the hos­pi­tal.

Bax­ter also de­nied il­le­gal pos­ses­sion of a knife at East Kil­bride po­lice sta­tion and fail­ing to at­tend court on April 10.

Trial was set for July 26 and he was al­lowed bail. A pre-trial hear­ing will take place on July 2.
