Fagan takes up Labour role

East Kilbride Central North councillor Joe Fagan has been elected as leader of South Lanarkshir­e Council’s Labour Group.

Labour councillor­s elected a new leadership team at their AGM.

East Kilbride Central South councillor Gerry Convery stepped down shortly after being voted in as the group’s leader following last year’s council elections.

Cambuslang East councillor Walter Brogan – who was acting leader – was elected depute leader of the Labour Group and East Kilbride South’s Fiona Dryburgh was elected business manager.

Speaking about his appointmen­t, Councillor Fagan said: “It is an honour to have been elected leader of Labour in South Lanarkshir­e.

“A strong, united leadership team was elected at our AGM to take the Labour Group forward and to hold SNP administra­tion at South Lanarkshir­e Council to account.

“Across South Lanarkshir­e, Labour councillor­s are working hard in their communitie­s day-in, day-out and the team elected today will support them to deliver the best deal that they can for those they represent.”
