Ve­hi­cle found on­fire in­street

Emer­gency ser­vices de­scended on East Kil­bride after a car in­volved in an out-of-town dis­tur­bance was found ablaze.

The ve­hi­cle had fled from po­lice in the Cam­bus­lang area and was later dis­cov­ered on fire near to Innes Court in Ste­wart­field at 10.30am on Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 2.

A passer-by told the News five po­lice cars, a fire en­gine and a po­lice dog unit were parked at wood­land on Ste­wart­field Way near to the en­trance to James Hamil­ton Her­itage Park.

The fire ser­vice were alerted to the scene shortly after 11am and ex­tin­guished the flames.

No-one was in­jured dur­ing the in­ci­dent.

A po­lice spokeswoman said: “Around 10.30am on Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 2, po­lice were called to a re­port of a dis­tur­bance in Lock­hart Av­enue, Cam­bus­lang.

“A ve­hi­cle made off from po­lice and was re­cov­ered a short time later on fire near to Innes Court, East Kil­bride. En­quiries are at an early stage.”
