Wait­ing times at Univer­sity Hos­pi­tal Hairmyres A&E depart­ment were above the Scot­tish aver­age for a sec­ond week in a row.

NHS Scot­land fig­ures re­veal that 92.5 per pent of pa­tients were ad­mit­ted, trans­ferred or dis­charged within the four-hour tar­get time for the week end­ing Sun­day, Septem­ber 23.

This was above the NHS La­nark­shire aver­age of 90.3 per cent. At Univer­sity Hos­pi­tal Mon­k­lands in Air­drie, 92.9 per cent of pa­tients were seen within four hours while the fig­ure was 85.9 per cent at Univer­sity Hos­pi­tal Wishaw.

The Scot­tish Govern­ment tar­get is 95 per cent and sta­tis­tics show that 88.7 per cent of pa­tients were seen dur­ing the four-hour pe­riod across Scot­land.

Ten pa­tients waited over eight hours and three more than 12 at Hairmyres.

Fig­ures for the pre­vi­ous week showed 92.8 per cent of pa­tients were seen at Hairmyres – this was again above the Scot­tish aver­age of 89.6 per cent.

The NHS La­nark­shire aver­age for that week was 91 per cent.
