EK stun Burgh in cup tie

East Kilbride News - - SPORT -

EK Thistle Amateurs marched into round three of the Scottish Amateur Cup after a shock thrashing of Greater Glasgow League side Helensburgh.

Quick-fire goals from Gary Noble and Peter Carr, with the later taking it around two players to slot past the keeper, got Thistle off to a perfect start.

However, just before half time a Jordan Brown own goal let Helensburgh back into the tie.

Steven Oates restored EK’s two-goal advantage early in the second half when he wriggled through the defence and fired the ball into the top corner. And that opened the floodgates. Jordan Conner scored Thistle’s fourth from a great assist from keeper Christopher Treacy, running onto his punt to lob the Burgh keeper.

Noble struck in the box for 5-1 and Jack Irvine wrapped up the scoring with a stunning volley to complete the rout.

Jags are now undefeated in their last three games going into this weekend’s Strathclyde Saturday Morning League fixture against Shawbridge.
