Two-year jail term after house thefts

A house­breaker who tar­geted homes in East Kil­bride has been jailed for two years at Hamil­ton Sher­iff Court.

John Paul Cham­bers, de­scribed as a pris­oner, ad­mit­ted steal­ing jew­ellery, cash, a cam­era and a games con­sole after forc­ing en­try to a prop­erty in Galt Place, The Mur­ray on April 29.

The 40-year-old also ad­mit­ted break­ing into a house in Glas­gow Road, Ner­ston with in­tent to steal and tak­ing an iPad and bank cards from a house in Craig Hill, The Mur­ray – both also on April 29.

Al­le­ga­tions that Cham­bers strug­gled with a man at the scene of the house­break­ing in Glas­gow Road and threat­ened a man with a knife in Craig Hill were dropped.

Cham­bers’not guilty plea to an­other charge – al­leg­ing he stole var­i­ous items after break­ing into a house in Glen Grove, The Mur­ray on May 12 – was ac­cepted.
