Bad Samaritan (15)
Dean Devlin’s (Geostorm) thriller has an intriguing set-up that is hampered by Brandon Boyd’s increasingly formulaic story.
Between tempting plot developments and Devlin showing a flair for fear, with 45 minutes on the clock it’s shaping up well.
Sadly, the longer the film goes on the worse – and dumber – it gets.
David Tennant is a long way off his magnetic turn as Kilgrave in Jessica Jones; his shouty antagonist feels pretty toothless.
Robert Sheehan plays the victim well in the movie’s best display but Bad Samaritan degenerates into a generic thriller missing any real unique selling point; no more apparent than during a lazy, exposition-heavy climax.
