Hun­dreds of va­ri­eties of av­o­cado are grown across the world (mainly in Mex­ico, Peru and Cal­i­for­nia), but UK su­per­mar­kets stock only a few. Here’s what to look for:

with a thick, dim­pled green skin, which ÌÕÀ Ã «ÕÀ« i L >V Ü i À «i°

Q FUERTE Longer and thin­ner than Hass, Fuerte have a smooth vi­brant green skin that peels eas­ily when the fruit is ripe. / i yià à > «> iÀ V ÕÀ Ì > Ì i >Ãð

PINKER­TON This large va­ri­ety is now Q start­ing to ap­pear on some su­per­mar­ket shelves. It’s sim­i­lar to the Fuerte in shape, but larger with very thin skin and plenty v Ã Ì ] VÀi> Þ yià °
