Bright beauties WHY?
Echinacea is sure to liven up your borders! Much loved by bees and butterflies, this hardy perennial carries large daisy flowers on upright stems throughout the summer. Recent breeding has given us a vibrant mix of colours, from yellow through to orange and pinks and red.
WHERE?
It grows best in moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Height: 40-70cm (16-28in).
HOW?
Sow echinacea seeds April-may or September-november in trays of compost. Do not cover the seeds, as they need light to germinate. Place in a propagator or on a warm windowsill. Pot up seedlings into small pots, then transplant when they are large enough to handle. Check out the range of exciting new hybrids from plantsofdistinction.co.uk, seeds from £3.85 per packet.
