LIGHTING FOR FUN – AND PEACE OF MIND

Longing to add that finishing touch with new outdoor lighting but worried about trailing cables, hard to reach bulbs or finding a design you love? We find out how modern lighting is changing everything – with the team from Norfolk Lighting Co.

FORGET blazing security lights which have you squinting and blinking as soon as you arrive home, or don’t turn on at all until several seconds after you need them, or which automatically turn on and off so regularly it’s clear you’re not home. Today’s lighting can be as subtle or as obvious as you like, say Norfolk Lighting Co owners Sophie and Iain Ames.

Based at Taverham Craft Centre, Norfolk Lighting Co has a rich and varied display of outdoor lighting, from stand alone lanterns which are garden features in themselves to wall lights and unobtrusive security lighting.

“We have set it up in an outdoor environment so people can get a true picture of how it will look at home,” says Iain.

“I believe we have one of the premier displays for outside lighting in Norfolk,” he adds.

The team is expert at using lighting to create features and focal points for clients’ homes and gardens, from uplighting a house façade to illuminating driveways, gardens and gates.

Iain’s 23 years experience as an electrical contractor – and as Norfolk Trusted Traders and industry NICEIC approved – means the company is renown for offering a complete bespoke installation service too, whether clients want to simply update existing lighting or rethink their entire lighting indoors and out.

“We can do whatever is required,” says Iain, which includes ensuring the power supply is suitable and everything is correctly installed to IEE regulations. He says external lighting is now affordable and accessible to all. “LED technology advances have driven down the cost and people are more prepared to have their lights on for extended / permanent durations both for security and aesthetic enhancement. Low energy bulbs used to be awful, they were large and highly unattractive, now they are anything we need them to be, the advances are huge and ongoing,” says Iain.

He says there is particularly demand from customers keen to replace their old halogen floodlights with more effective, efficient, reliable and attractive lighting.

These include colour changing lighting and indoor and outdoor lighting that can be turned on with a smart phone or tablet, from anywhere.

It means lights can be switched on and off whether the homeowner is nearby, heading home - or in another country. “It’s great peace of mind and security,” adds Sophie. Norfolk Lighting Co offers a full range of indoor and outdoor lighting and services including lighting consultation, electrical design and installation, CCTV and security systems, solar PV installation, lighting control and electrical test and inspection services.
