Jess was just 14 when she began to lose her hair. The devastated teenager was told that she had alopecia. She not only lost her hair and her eyebrows, but also her confidence. The condition hit without warning or reason and Jess said: “In the space of a few months I was left with little confidence and hope of any of my hair growing back. No matter what age you are, it is a very frightening experience when you feel you can do nothing about it.”
Jess’ friends rallied round, several of them coming to school in the head-bands she began wearing to hide her hair-loss. Then she heard about Chris. “When I was first introduced to Chris Chapman I didn’t realise how much he would change my life,” she said. “He offered me a wide range of wigs, synthetic and human hair, all of which were gorgeous. Owning two of these human hair wigs I can say that they are fabulous quality and I could not be happier. They feel beautifully soft and look so natural that many of my friends found it hard to believe it was a wig.
“When I came to Chris for help, he was the first person to genuinely understand my situation and was immediately willing to put all his effort and time into providing me the perfect wig within a few days.”
Now 17 and studying at sixth form, Jess is able to use tongs and curlers on her wig as if it was her actual hair. “Not only did he supply me with comfortable and natural wigs, he gave me back the confidence I desperately needed,” said Jess, who is currently considering a career in medicine or healthcare as a way of helping other people.
After her daughter lost her hair to chemotherapy while fighting breast cancer, Ann Browne went with her to see Chris Chapman. Ann was so impressed that she later wrote to Chris. “The hairpiece he made was so like her hair people didn’t know it wasn’t real”, she said. “Chris has helped so many people and deserves some recognition.”
