L’ÎLE DE PORQUEROLLES, CÔTE D’AZUR

EDP Norfolk - - Education -

Part of the Port-Cros National Park on the Côte d’Azur, the picture-perfect island of Porquerolles remains a haven of vineyards, flowers and trees thanks to the purchase of 80% of the island in 1971 by the state, the formation of a National Conservancy and Botanical Garden in 1990 and National Park status since 2012. With a permanent population of only around 350 people and no cars, the idyllic island is a popular destination for tranquil walks, bike rides or making the most of the small coves and inlets for some wild swimming. The island is immensely popular as a stopover for the sailing fraternity too, when enjoying the Mediterranean.
