In My Bag
Sophie Ames opens up her handbag
SOPHIE AMES and her husband Iain run The Norfolk Lighting Company and, as the business prepares to celebrate its second birthday, she says they are gearing up for their busiest time of the year.
“As winter closes in and the festive season approaches, people start to use their lighting so much more as the nights draw in; many realise they need bulbs, others want new lamps or to completely transform their lighting systems. And with Christmas, people love our strings of unusual decorative lights or novelty lights for children.”
The Norfolk Lighting Company, which is in the courtyard at Taverham Garden Centre, sells a huge variety of high quality lighting – from bespoke fabric lampshades and vintage pendants to stunning statement pieces to illuminate your dining room table and elegant lamps.
The team can also provides a full fitting and design service and specialises in smart technology.
Sophie, whose background is in HR, says since having her children her handbag needs have changed.
“I absolutely love handbags, it’s definitely my thing, although I am not into any particular label. But in the last few years, I have gone for smaller across the body bags – like my Yves Saint Laurent one – as I am always carrying a big, packed change bag for the kids as well.” The Norfolk Lighting Company, www.thenorfolklightingcompany.co.uk; 01603 866627
BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie lip gloss, from £17 It has a slightly minty taste and is really nice to wear. I stocked up on them as I thought they might stop doing them. I don’t wear lots of make-up but I do love to have a lip gloss to pop on.
Anti-bacterial hand gel, from 99p I don’t like getting ill so I always try and keep my hands clean. Having two young children and constantly unpacking boxes, handling stock and setting things up at work means I get pretty grubby so this is a must.
Mulberry purse, from £275 Although it has been chewed by my toddler daughter and is quite old, I love Mulberry and love this purse. I can cram everything into it. I never used to carry much cash but since I’ve had the children I seem to always need small change for something.
iPhone 6 I put everything in my calendar on my phone – work and home. Mine and Iain’s calendars are synced up so everything should be there – if one of us forgets to add it in and there’s a clash, we’re not going. It’s caused a few rows!
