The Wells Com­mu­nity Hos­pi­tal is break­ing new ground with a spe­cial gar­den project which will help peo­ple liv­ing with mild to mod­er­ate men­tal ill-health.

They are join­ing The Nur­ture Project, which is based at Ket­tle­stone, to of­fer in­door and out­door gar­den­ing ex­pe­ri­ences in the hos­pi­tal gar­dens from next month.

Car­lyn Kil­patrick, founder of The Nur­ture Project says, “It has been a long-held view that hor­ti­cul­ture has a mean­ing­ful ther­a­peu­tic value, both on a phys­i­cal and emo­tional level. Hor­ti­cul­tural ther­apy is an in­no­va­tive and creative ap­proach to help­ing peo­ple liv­ing with men­tal health is­sues, such as de­pres­sion, anx­i­ety or stress.”

The new pi­lot pro­gramme aims to be op­er­a­tional early this year, of­fer­ing a va­ri­ety of gar­den­ing ex­pe­ri­ences, as well as in­door hor­ti­cul­tural ac­tiv­i­ties. www.thenur­ture­pro­
