40 years of cham­pi­ons

In Jan­uary Pot­ters Re­sort wel­comes the world to Hop­ton-on-Sea, as it rolls out its fa­mous blue car­pet to host the Just 2018 World In­door Bowls Cham­pi­onships.

THE HIGH­LIGHT of the in­door bowls cal­en­dar, bowls’ big­gest tour­na­ment is cel­e­brat­ing 40 years of thrilling ac­tion in 2018, as Pot­ters Re­sort plays host to the Just 2018 World In­door Bowls Cham­pi­onships for the 20th year run­ning in its im­pres­sive 1,100 seat In­ter­na­tional Arena.

From Fri­day, Jan­uary 12 to Sun­day, Jan­uary 28, the very best play­ers from around the world, to­gether with up-and­com­ing stars, will de­scend in Nor­folk for 17 non-stop days of bowls.

The only world cham­pi­onship fi­nal to be held in East Anglia, this is your chance to be part of his­tory and see if Alex Mar­shall from Scot­land can beat his own record to win the crown for a record break­ing sev­enth time, or if fel­low Scot and reign­ing cham­pion Paul Foster can tie with Alex to add six wins to his name.

And why not cheer on cur­rent world num­ber one and Pot­ters bowls am­bas­sador, Greg Har­low? Greg, from Ely, man­ages Pot­ters Bowls Shop at the re­sort and on­line, and will be com­pet­ing once again in 2018, af­ter mak­ing it to the fi­nal in 2017.

There are four in­di­vid­ual events dur­ing the cham­pi­onships: The World In­door Sin­gles, The World In­door Pairs, The Ladies World Match­play and The Mixed Pairs World Match­play.

In the 2017 World Cham­pi­onships, Paul Foster won the sin­gles ti­tle for the fifth time, while Suf­folk’s Kather­ine Red­nall won her sec­ond ti­tle in the women’s sin­gles. Ja­son Greenslade and Les Gil­lett took vic­tory in the pairs, and Nick Brett and

Claire John­ston won the mixed pairs.

And 2018 is set to be an­other elec­tri­fy­ing year at Pot­ters, with the fi­nal week be­ing tele­vised live by the BBC.

Ev­ery player will be com­pet­ing to take home a tro­phy and earn a sin­gles prize of £55,000.

A range of short breaks and day tick­ets are avail­able through­out the cham­pi­onships, so you can watch the elec­tri­fy­ing ac­tion and en­joy the thrill of world class sport live, along with over 20,000 spec­ta­tors over the course of the cham­pi­onships.

Many play­ers stay on re­sort, which means that guests may be eat­ing in the same restau­rant and per­haps shar­ing a jacuzzi with some of the best bowls play­ers in the world.
