Village green hopes dashed by council

Egham News - - NEWS - MOLESEY:

An application to gain village green status for land at Molesey Hurst has been rejected by Surrey County Council’s Planning and Regulatory Committee.

Submitted in October 2011, the application was supported by 133 statements from residents, who provided evidence of recreational use of the land at the meeting on November 18.

It was rejected by Elmbridge Borough Council in January 2012 and Joanna Mortimer, of Surrey County Council’s legal and democratic services recommended the committee reject the application, as it did not prove that residents were using the land ‘as of right’ but rather already had lawful use of the land.
