FOL­LOW­ING John Whit­bread’s let­ter ( Her­ald & News, Novem­ber 20), I am also very sorry the Her­ald is clos­ing.

I was em­ployed for more than 40 years on the pro­duc­tion staff, start­ing as an ap­pren­tice com­pos­i­tor in the Wey­bridge of­fice in 1945.

After two years’ na­tional ser­vice in the RAF, I re­turned to con­tinue my em­ploy­ment. I have seen changes in the print­ing meth­ods from the tra­di­tional ink and type faces to com­put­erised pro­duc­tion.

I made many friends over the years with the AS read­ers will know, the Spelthorne Business Plan Com­pe­ti­tion opened for en­tries in Septem­ber.

In the first round, en­trants were asked to think of a business idea and com­plete a short con­cept plan. There were lots of great ideas
