Get crafty or just admire those who are

Egham News - - LEISURE -

IT is the season to get crafty at The Lightbox in Woking – get inspiration from expert makers and artists, have a go yourself or buy ready made creations in a relaxed environment.

To start with, enjoy and get motivated with Refined, an exhibition celebrating Surrey Guild of Craftsmen’s 21st anniversary. Each of the makers of the Guild co-operative was invited to produce up to three pieces to showcase their craft for this touring public exhibition and 40 responded with some stunning designs.

The Lightbox’s Christmas shopping event will take place on Saturday December 20, from 5pm to 8pm. There are a lot of reasons to take advantage of this late opening evening. You can avoid the masses in the high street and shop in style. You can choose from a selection of unique and handcrafted gift ideas while enjoying free mulled wine and mince pies.

There is also the chance to get a last look at the Refined exhibition, where some of the pieces are for sale. Meet the artists and discover what inspires them and how the pieces for sale have been made.

And to top it all, the bar will be open and music by Sour Kix will provide the perfect backdrop.

Children can start the new year by getting crafty and helping the environment with some recycling.

A session called Messenger Pigeons will take place on Friday January 2 and involves turning old Christmas cards into a pigeon carrying a special message. The workshop includes all materials and runs from 1.30pm to 4pm. It is suitable for children aged four and over accompanied by an adult. Suggested donation £2.
