Esher a Shaw thing

HALF-BACKS Ian Cross and Robbie Shaw dominated as Esher beat Blaydon 42-12 in National One to continue their fine home form.

Having only scraped past Loughborough Students two weeks earlier and then lost at Old Albanians – despite leading 22-3 at half time – the hosts needed an assured performance.

It was scrum-half Shaw and stand-off Cross who helped make sure their team provided one and after Ali Chisholm made the breakthrough, Shaw struck twice in four minutes, firstly bursting through the cover and then – following a lineout – producing a darting run, slicing through a gap in the defence.

Cross added the extras both times while prop Ollie Mines burrowed over for a fine individual effort and an expansive move enabled replacement Ollie Richards to go over for the final try, Cross again converting.
