150 years of history

Egham News - - NEWS -

THERE’S 122 years of history tied up in the pages of the Surrey Herald & News – but there’s even more in the pages of the Surrey Advertiser.

The newspaper celebrated its 150th birthday earlier this year and marked the occasion with a special supplement looking back at its history and by reproducing that very first edition.

When the newspaper first launched in April 1864, it was purely a vehicle for advertisers to get their message across to a wider audience.

By August of that year, however, articles began to appear.

And for a century and a half, the Surrey Advertiser has continued to have its finger on the pulse, finding new and innovative ways of keeping its readers abreast of what is going on.

The Runnymede and Spelthorne edition of the paper will bring the number of editions to seven. In April 1864, there was only the one edition but it covered the boroughs of Runnymede and Spelthorne.

It seems we are going back to our roots.
