We’re just getting bigger
Everyone is trying to get a glimpse of the Runnymede & Spelthorne edition or the Elmbridge edition of the – in shops every Friday from December 26 costing just 80p
IN October 1985, the Surrey Herald changed from its broadsheet format to a tabloid. It celebrated the fact with the photograph on the right.
Well, nearly 30 years on, we have decided that bigger is better and, from next Friday, you can find all the news, features, sport and letters from your area in the Surrey Advertiser because we are going large.
And with those broadsheet pages we will be able to pack in so much more content for our readers to enjoy.
To celebrate this milestone, we recreated the image used by the Herald & News nearly three decades ago and, as you can see, our editorial team is clamouring to see what’s inside those big pages.
And it is this Herald & News team who will continue to provide the coverage you value in the Elmbridge edition and the brand new Runnymede and Spelthorne edition of the Surrey Advertiser.
The team is lead by news editor Oliver Florence, who has lived in the area for most of his life.
Sports editor Clive Youlton will continue to bring you the match reports, team and individual sports news and features from all your favourite teams.
A former Woking FC player, Clive is known for keeping a tally of the number of different sports he covers in his columns and trying to exceed the total year on year.
Our dedicated chief reporter Charlotte Talbot is well-known in the area and can be guaranteed to get to the bottom of the story.
She will be ably assisted by our hardworking reporters Eleanor Davis and Matt Strudwick, who will be out and about gathering the stories that are important to you, our readers.
Of course, the wider resources of the Surrey Advertiser’s editorial team will also be providing content for the pages. This includes dedicated Elmbridge reporters Tom Smurthwaite and Charlotte Tobitt, as well as a full team of reporting, sports and photographic staff and the digital team from www. GetSurrey.co.uk who provide up-to-the-minute coverage of breaking news and events and will even tell you where the traffic hold-ups are on our live blog from 6.30am to 8pm Monday to Friday.
So, while we celebrate the 122 years of news gathering that has been the Surrey Herald & News, we are also looking forward to a bigger future in the broadsheet pages of the Surrey Advertiser. And we hope you will join us.
