Architect Hans La Degaaro designed this home with a layout that is as open and airy as possible. Not only do the kitchen, living and dining areas create one fluid space, but so do the bedrooms and bathrooms, which are linked by walk-in-wardrobes. These are crafted from the same richly grained veneer, and with the same leather pull-handle detailing as the kitchen cupboards downstairs. ‘I first thought the idea of sliding elements to link rooms was a little crazy, but they work beautifully,’ Helle says. ‘ We had a local craftsman make the leather pulls for the doors, as they are very expensive to buy off-the-shelf, especially when you have so many cupboards.’
