‘My interest in radio started maybe a week before I began doing radio…’ Julie, 29, tells us with a roaring snigger, which, she says, is one of the reasons people tune in. ‘I have a funny laugh! And

I play good music.’ Both are true, and her commitment is unparalleled; she spends up to three hours a day sifting through new tracks. After helping her brothers – grime artists Skepta and JME – promote their own music, Julie and a friend, broadcaster Sian Anderson, landed a Rinse FM show, but she was soon poached by Apple’s radio venture Beats 1 to become its UK anchor. Here, she’s spoken to everyone from P Diddy to Britney Spears, in between her raison d’etre; bringing us new sounds. Julie’s on Beats 1, Apple Music, Mon to Thurs, 8pm
