TOM MEREDITH

ELLE (UK) - - Guest List - @misterthomasjames

Our creative director, Tom, first worked for ELLE in 2005. He then moved to Paris to work on the French edition and with the interational team. He rejoined ELLE in May, to spearhead the new vision. ‘The redesign started in a coffee shop with me and AMC – our ed-in-chief’s nickname – sharing our pure love for ELLE. We then took to Paris and rifled through Sixties and Seventies editions of French ELLE on the banks of the Seine – they just felt so modern to us. We wanted a brand new font based on the classic ELLE Futura. Later, working with design studio APFEL [see right], we created a font with real character – we wanted it to look like a smile! The UK team is full of positivity, which is exactly the way we see fashion. And ELLE.’ Tom wears shorts to work every day of the year, and his biggest inspiration? ‘Peter Knapp, Peter Knapp, Peter Knapp.’
