Some of the­atre’s most ex­cit­ing names have got their early breaks in the sea­side town of Alde­burgh thanks to HighTide, its an­nual fes­ti­val of new plays. Rob Drum­mond’s In Fidelity and Theresa Ikoko’s Girls (pic­tured be­low) both pre­miered at the fes­ti­val be­fore go­ing on to na­tional tours.

The highly an­tic­i­pated de­buts for this year in­clude the sec­ond

GO SEE com­ing of Kanye West in

Sam Steiner’s play Kanye the First, and Hero­ine by TV and the­atre writer Nes­sah Muthy, in which an ex-ser­vice­woman strug­gles with pa­tri­o­tism and her sense of be­long­ing.

If Alde­burgh’s fish and chips and peb­bled beaches are un­reach­able, the fes­ti­val will also make its de­but in Waltham­stow, East London. Tick­ets for both are avail­able on­site at the fes­ti­val box of­fice or on­line at Hightide.org.uk.
