THE ACTOR PUTTING HOLLYWOOD TO RIGHTS AND CALLING OUT SOCIAL INJUSTICES

Actor Kiersey Clemons is no stranger to taking on diverse roles: in the remake of Nineties sci-fi thriller Flatliners, she plays a student experiencing the afterlife; later this year, she is reporter Iris West in Justice League, and also stars in the horror film Sweetheart. Like Amandla Stenberg and Rowan Blanchard, Kiersey is part of a generation of actors committed to calling out injustice: in April, she tweeted to her 75k fans, ‘Our pay (as women) is determined not by talent but [by] followers, and I’m done pretending it’s not.’ But she’s sceptical about ‘actor/activist’ labels: ‘It’s easy to write a tweet, but we’re not going to make change by sitting behind our computers,’ she says. ‘You can’t turn speaking about politics into a trend: I want things to come from a genuine place.’ Flatliners is out 29 September, Justice League is out 17 November
