THE TICK

The spoof superhero reboot ticks all the right boxes...

Empire (UK) - - REVIEW -

1 THE TICK UNLEASHED

Fifteen years after the excellent shortlived Fox show, Ben Edlund’s big, blue, bonkers superhero returned for an Amazon pilot. This time he’s played by Peter Serafinowicz, and the British actor nails The Tick’s buffoonery in this scene where he tries to reveal sidekick Arthur’s secret lair. (He doesn’t have one.)

2 MEET THE TERROR

An almost unrecognisable Jackie Earle Haley has lots of fun in this flashback to the moment when his unspeakable supervillain, The Terror, meets a young Arthur seconds after accidentally crushing his dad. If it goes to series, expect to see a lot more of Haley.

3 THE CLIFFHANGER

Directed by The Dark Knight DP Wally Pfister and written by Edlund, the show has a grittier attitude, vastly different from the OTT stylings of the 2001 take. It even has an open ending as Arthur (Griffin Newman), minutes after becoming a superhero, appears to have been shot. “New plan,” says The Tick.

THE TICK is streaming now on amazon prime
