THE LATEST PEARLER from the Australian Tourism Board, this dead-eyed horror tries desperately to be artier and loftier than your average stalk-and-slash, but still emerges as a claret-soaked cross between The Hills

Have Eyes and Wolf Creek. Writer/director Damien Power knows we’ve been down this red road before, so tries to freshen up this tale of a young couple falling foul of psychos with a couple of tricks. First, we get to spend time with the killers in a failed attempt to imbue them with depth. Then there’s a temporal tease in which Power plays with different timelines, before bringing home the bloody bacon. The problem: it’s ages before anything happens, and when it does it’s needlessly brutal, and nothing new.
