THIS MONTH’S BIGGEST TRAILER MOMENT

The last issue of Empire featured some remarkable concept art for the Peter Jackson produced fantasy epic Mortal Engines. “Surely,” readers wailed (probably), “such wild concepts would never see fruition?” And yet here we are: a mad steampunk vision of future-london-onwheels, gobbling up smaller towns with abandon. There’s not much to parse from the 90-second teaser, but there’s some familiar remnants of the Big Smoke: tiny scraps of Parliament [1], a warped version of City Hall [2], the iconic dome of St Paul’s Cathedral [3], what looks like the Boadicea monument [4], and (just out of this shot) the Trafalgar Square lions [5]. All together now: “Maybe it’s because I’m a Londoner...”
