Empire (UK) - - RE.VIEW -

_ This shot was in the can before Martin Sheen had his heart attack, which led to Coppola famously pronouncing, “He’s not dead until I say he’s dead.”

_ The water buffalo slaughter in the film is real, a ritual spotted by Coppola’s wife Eleanor on location. It led to the film receiving an “unacceptable” rating by the American Humane Association.

_ During the entirety of the shoot, Coppola shot 230 hours’ worth of footage.

_ DP Vittorio Storaro appears in the film alongside Coppola. They form a TV news team as Willard arrives in the combat zone.
