OBJECT OF DESIRE
The 2017 Tank Louis Cartier watch centenary model in 18k pink gold
The shape of Louis Cartier’s classic rectangular dress watch, the Tank, was originally unveiled in 1917, inspired by the distinctive angular treads of early armoured vehicles used by the French army in World War I. This year the style, which has barely changed since its debut, is being celebrated in a centenary collection hitting the shops just in time for black-tie festivities. Six new versions of the unisex Tank Louis Cartier are being produced, but to Esquire’s mind the best is undoubtedly this large-size (33.7 x 25.5mm), 18k pink gold model mounted on a brown semi-matte crocodile leather strap, with a blue sapphire cabochon and matching blue steel hands. Wear with one of this season’s chocolate brown velvet tuxes and you’re good to go.
