On the 1st Oc­to­ber Down Hall wel­comed 192 of Es­sex’s finest in the hos­pi­tal­ity sec­tor to host the an­nual Es­sex Food & Drink Awards.

This his­toric coun­try house ho­tel from the 14 Cen­tury sat in 110 acres of park­land and land­scaped gar­dens was the per­fect set­ting for such a pres­ti­gious event.

Guests were wel­comed to the ho­tel with a glass of cham­pagne in the lounge be­fore sit­ting down to an Es­sex in­spired menu that com­ple­mented the awards din­ner per­fectly.

To start was a chicken cail­lette, deep fried oys­ter with shal­lot emul­sion & shal­lot jus, to fol­low we had lamb rump, lamb breast, kale, hum­mus & sesame jus. For dessert we had a stun­ning choco­late & hazel­nut delice, salted caramel, green tea mac­aron & yo­ghurt sor­bet. Home­made pate de fruit was to ac­com­pany our cof­fee af­ter din­ner as we awaited the start of the awards cer­e­mony.

It was a fan­tas­tic night of glitz and glam­our cel­e­brat­ing every­thing that’s good about Es­sex pro­duce, the qual­ity of food & ser­vice that we of­fer our guests.
