WHAT THE WINNER SAID:

We are so overwhelmed and shocked to have won this award. We are a family business which tries to make good beer and cider and promote Essex. We love what we do and we love where we live. The recognition of this award is phenomenal. Essex is a big county and there are things we can do locally and internationally, but to have the recognition of the whole of Essex is absolutely amazing. This is us, we are Essex. This award will push us more locally. But for Essex to say we are the best in Essex for 2015 is unbelievable. It illustrates what we do. We are going to put it up on the mantle piece. Thank you to everyone.

WHAT THE JUDGE SAID:

The winner of the Pride of Essex category is a business that has grown from small beginnings into something that has real potential for the future. They started off in a very small way, in fact almost as a hobby, but were encouraged to take it further until it became a full-time business. They use locally sourced raw ingredients wherever possible and recycle some of their waste products as animal feed for a local farm. Their products can be found in local shops across the county as well as other more specialist outlets and they produce a wide variety of their staple produce. Such has been their success that they are now looking to relocate to a bigger and better unit. All of our entrants well and truly met the criteria for this award, which made judging difficult, but this business seemed to go just that extra mile to be the Pride of Essex. They are that business with the somewhat strange but appropriate name, Wibblers Brewery.
