8 Mark Burnett & Roma Downey
It has been a long journey for Mark Burnett — from a childhood in Dagenham, where his parents worked for Ford, to superstar status in Hollywood. But his A list credentials as the top producer in American television were confirmed in September 2014 when the MGM studio spent $343m for a 55% stake in the TV production company run by the former British para and Falklands veteran and his Irish actress wife, Roma Downey. Their company One Three Media holds rights to reality hits such as The Voice, Survivor, The Apprentice and Shark Tank. Burnett and Downey have had a recent hit with The
Bible, a mini-series, which is being followed by a sequel AD. The pair are also working on a re-make of Ben Hur. The new MGM deal values the business at around £400m. Past sale proceeds and the £100m value of their remaining stake take Burnett and Downey to £375m.
